Accident on major Colorado highway causes injury

A car accident that occurred on Colorado 96 at approximately 8:45 p.m. on June 3 left two individuals with injuries. According to police reports, the collision may have been caused by an intoxicated driver.

The two-car accident reportedly occurred nearby the Pueblo Memorial Airport when a 34-year-old woman driving a 2012 Dodge Avenger in the wrong direction of the highway and without the use of her vehicle's headlights collided head-on with an eastbound 1997 Dodge pickup truck. An ambulance took the driver of the truck, a 33-year-old male, and his occupant, a 36-year-old female, to Parkview Medical Center. The woman was evaluated and released, but the driver was moved to another hospital in Denver for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not reported. An ambulance also transferred the driver of the Avenger to Parkview Medical Center for treatment where she was reportedly recovering from undisclosed injuries.

One motorist said that he noticed that the Avenger barely missed crashing into another vehicle right before it collided with the truck. Another motorist stated that he was forced to move to the far right-hand side of the roadway in order to escape the crash. Two eastbound drivers also told authorities that they observed the Avenger heading towards them and that the car's headlights were not on. Highway officials who responded to the scene closed Colorado 96 while investigators processed the accident scene. The area was open to traffic four hours later.

The injured truck driver in this motor vehicle accident may wish to file a personal injury claim against the woman who was driving the Avenger. If police reports suggest that she caused the accident because she was intoxicated, the plaintiff could hold her liable for his accident-related losses including medical costs, an income loss and property damage.
