Teenager arrested after hit-and-run

A teenager recently turned himself in at a police station in Colorado after allegedly hitting a motorcyclist in Westminster. The car accident occurred on U.S. 36 on May 31. Police say that a motorcyclist was exiting the highway at Sheridan Boulevard at about 11:30 p.m. when a vehicle hit the bike from behind, throwing the motorcyclist.

The driver reportedly fled the scene after the crash. Officers were able to locate the Toyota Scion TC believed to be involved one day after the accident. Police did not disclose where the vehicle was found, but reports indicated it had front-end damage.

The teen driver of the Scion turned himself in at the Westminster police station on June 9. He was then taken into custody and charged with careless driving resulting in injury, violating restrictions on a learner's permit, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to give information or aid at an accident scene. He was being held at a juvenile detention facility. The family of the motorcyclist has started a fund to cover medical expenses.

When an injured person is hospitalized for an extended period of time, he or she may accumulate a hefty medical bill. In this case, a fund may be able to help cover part of the cost, but funds may not always cover expenses completely. A car accident victim may be able to talk to a lawyer about the possibility of filing a personal injury claim for compensation. He or she could be compensated for the damage done to their vehicle, lost wages and pain and suffering in some cases.
