3 fatalities in Colorado car accident involving semi-truck

On Behalf of | Jun 24, 2014 | Car Accidents

On June 20, three individuals were killed due to injuries they suffered in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Weld County Road 55 located about two miles north from Gill. The truck driver involved was only slightly injured.

According to reports, the fatal motor vehicle accident took place at around 10:40 a.m. when a 22-year-old Greenly woman operating a Dodge Charger in the southbound lane of Weld County Road 55 drove through a stop sign and collided with a semi-truck, causing the truck to flip over. The driver and her two passengers, an 18-year-old Evans man and a 22-year-old Greenly man died in the wreck.

On June 21, following notification of immediate family members, officials from the Weld County Coroner’s Office publicly identified the three accident victims. It was reported that, with these three deaths, a total of 16 individuals had been killed on Weld roads during the year and that there were 14 fatalities during the first half of 2013.

Serious car accidents often result with a victim being critically injured. For some, their injuries can turn fatal. For others, they could face months of recovery time due to the nature of their injuries. Internal injuries to the organs, head trauma and spinal cord damage could also lead to permanent disability for many. In cases where a negligent driver was involved, a personal injury lawyer may be able to assist the injured party in recovering their accident-related expenses and losses.

By analyzing the official police report and witness statements, a lawyer representing the injured party might find evidence proving the negligent party. For example, if the driver was speeding, ignoring traffic rules or was distracted at the time of the crash, he may be held liable for damages. Whenever the negligent driver dies in the accident, the plaintiff could file against that person’s estate in seeking compensation.
