3 injured in trucking accident

Three people in Colorado were brought to the hospital after they were involved in a trucking accident on Aug. 22. The incident happened at approximately 5:39 p.m. on the northbound side of the Foothills Parkway in Boulder. A semi-truck headed north attempted to turn east onto Baseline Road, but the driver lost control of the vehicle and overturned. Two vehicles were crushed beneath the semi and others were covered in sand that dumped out from the trailer.

According to police, the initial collision caused a chain-reaction crash involving a number of other vehicles as well. Several of the drivers that were traveling on the westbound side of Baseline Road, found themselves trapped inside their vehicles beneath the sand. According to local reports, there were at least five vehicles damages in the crash. Several good Samaritans provided hands, buckets and shovels to help dig the accident victims out of the sand.

Officers at the scene reported that two were drivers were able to free themselves from the sand while the last remained trapped but conscious. Firefighters and police removed the roof of the vehicle to help free the last driver from the sand. That driver, one of the others and the driver inside the semi were all brought to local hospitals to receive treatment for their injuries. The severity of the injuries suffered was not disclosed to local reporters. Police continued to investigate what caused the truck driver to lose control of his vehicle.

People involved in a truck accident often benefit from conferring with legal counsel about filing a personal injury claim. Often times, the truck driver or the employer may be found liable for the damages resulting from the crash. Lawyers involved in these types of cases typically focus on attempting to prove that the defendant’s negligence was the cause of the incident. Victims may be entitled to recover restitution for medical expenses, loss of income or repair costs related to the accident.
