Colorado’s I-25 HOV lanes scene of accident

On Behalf of | Aug 11, 2014 | Car Accidents

A Colorado crash between a Jeep and a sedan resulted in serious injuries on August 8. Authorities are trying to determine how a wrong-way driver entered the gated high occupancy vehicle lane on Interstate 25.

The car accident happened at about 12:41 p.m. when the driver of a Jeep Liberty headed southbound in the northbound HOV lane on I-25 in the area near 62nd Avenue. The police were told there was a wrong-way driver on the interstate a few minutes before the crash occurred. The lanes were closed after the collision while the accident was cleared and an investigation proceeded. At about 4:20 p.m., the lanes were reopened.

The Jeep’s female driver and the sedan’s male driver were both taken to the hospital with what were described as serious injuries, and reports did not offer any information on their current conditions. According to a representative of the Colorado State Patrol, the Jeep’s driver may have been impaired by drugs, and this is being investigated. Police said HOV lanes are gated to prevent a wrong-way driver from gaining access, and they are trying to determine how the Jeep’s driver got past the gates.

Many accidents in Colorado are caused by impaired drivers. As in this case, this may cause them to drive in a way that inflicts injury on other motorists. An individual harmed by a negligent driver may require long hospital stays and a period of physical rehabilitation with concurrent time away from work. Bills and lost income may take a financial toll. However, an attorney may help by reviewing the accident and providing helpful advice in dealing with the insurance company as well as guidance in filing a personal injury suit.
