3 injured in Colorado accident involving stolen car

On Behalf of | Nov 26, 2014 | Car Accidents

Three people were injured in a Nov. 18 car accident in Colorado that police said involved impaired driving. Colorado Springs police arrested a 22-year-old man and charged him with driving under the influence of drugs, vehicular assault and other offenses.

The accident occurred around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Academy Boulevard and Airport Road in Colorado Springs. The 22-year-old man ran the red light at the intersection and drove into the path of several other vehicles. At least two other cars collided with the 22-year-old’s car. A fourth vehicle was also damaged in the accident.

Some of the people involved in the crash were trapped in their cars and needed the help of emergency personnel. Paramedics transported three people to a hospital. Police indicated that at least one person suffered serious injuries.

The car that the 22-year-old man was driving at the time of the accident was reported stolen. Upon his arrest, police booked him into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and held him on $10,000 bond.

People who drive after drinking alcohol or taking drugs place other motorists in danger. Serious injuries such as broken bones or head injuries may require surgery, extended hospital stays and other treatments that often leave victims deep in debt, particularly if they must miss work to recover. While drunk drivers could face criminal charges for their actions, victims may want to file a suit in civil court if they wish to seek compensation. Compensation from a personal injury lawsuit could provide victims with the funds they need to cover medical expenses and other financial damages resulting from the car accident.
