An Adams County street race resulted in a two-car collision the hospitalization of six people. The accident occurred on Nov. 7 near 54th Avenue when a car and motorcycle driver challenged each other to a race.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a motorcycle and a Volvo S40 were racing in the northbound lane of Federal Boulevard when the driver of the Volvo lost control of the car, whirled around and hit a Nissan Altima head-on. The auto accident caused passengers in the Nissan to be ejected from the car while other victims had to be extracted from the vehicle.

Authorities report that the car and the motorcycle were driving at speeds ranging from 90 to 100 miles per hour at the time of the car accident. According to witnesses on the scene, the motorcycle was driving so fast that no one was able to get a description of driver or the motorcycle. The motorcycle driver fled the scene of the accident and continued north on Federal Boulevard. Authorities haven’t located the driver or the motorcycle.

There were four passengers in the Nissan and two in the Volvo when the accident occurred. All six individuals involved in the collision were sent to a local hospital. There are no further details on the condition of the victims.

Street racing is a risky and illegal activity that shows gross negligence on the part of all involved parties, including spectators. When high-speed street races result in a motor vehicle accident, the injuries are often severe and sometimes life threatening. Victims who are injured as a result of negligent drag race drivers have a right to pursue legal recourse. With the help of an attorney, the victims in this case may be able to file a personal injury claim against all responsible parties to cover damages, medical expenses and their pain and suffering.
