A Colorado resident was killed in an accident involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 80 in Wyoming on April 20. The accident left one other person dead and several people injured. Smoke from several fires related to the accident could be seen for miles. Additionally, the accident left that section of the interstate closed until at least the next day.
According to the Wyoming State Patrol, the fatal car accident occurred around 8:00 a.m. about 18 miles from Laramie, Wyoming. The accident was a chain-reaction crash that, according to the early investigation, involved 64 vehicles. One of the vehicles involved was a tanker truck carrying 22,000 gallons of hazardous materials. Some of the trucks involved caught fire in the incident.
The Colorado resident was a 23-year-old from Westminster. The other person killed was a 58-year-old woman from Williford, Arkansas. Police believed that weather had played a role in the accident as there was dense fog and slight slush at the time the incident took place. This was the second accident in less than five days with weather as a factor. The other accident involved 70 vehicles and left 22 people injured.
When a person is injured in an accident involving multiple vehicles, it might take some time to establish liability, particularly if the original driver is not the liable one. An injured victim might need to await the results of the police investigation before deciding to file a personal injury claim since there might be multiple drivers liable for different aspects of the accident. An example of this is a speeding driver crashing into another vehicle that had been stopped due to an accident. That driver’s speeding might be used to show liability and negligence even though the driver did not cause the original crash.
