Fatal motor vehicle accidents: man dies after accident

On Behalf of | Jun 21, 2016 | Fatal Motor Vehicle Accidents

A man who was previously involved in a car accident in May has tragically died, according to local sources. Colorado officials who are responsible for handling fatal motor vehicle accidents of this type have confirmed that the crash, which occurred on May 17, has resulted in the death of one man. Police are apparently still investigating the crash.

Police say the accident occurred in an intersection when a man attempted to negotiate a right-hand turn onto a westbound street. The man apparently lost control of his vehicle and continued southbound where he struck several eastbound cars in the intersection, which were stopped at the light. Police say five cars were involved in the accident.

Of those five vehicles, one was a pickup truck, driven by a 54-year-old man, that was struck by the out-of-control driver. The man was seriously injured in the accident and was rushed to a local hospital. He survived almost a month before succumbing to his injuries on June 12. Police believe the man who lost control may have been speeding at the time of the accident. No charges appear to have been filed yet.

If Colorado police can prove the man was speeding, he could face criminal charges for his role in the accident. Fatal motor vehicle accidents of this type are even more tragic due to their preventable nature. In addition, the deceased man’s family may choose to use police evidence to file a wrongful death suit against the driver in addition to the criminal charges filed by authorities.
