While motorcyclists have the same rights on the road as the operators of other vehicles, drivers often pay less attention to motorcyclists. Unfortunately, given the difference in size and protection between a motorcycle and a car, motorcycle accidents are far more likely to be serious or even fatal for the biker. A fatal motorcycle crash occurred recently in Colorado, with tragic results.
A Colorado community is still shaken by the loss of one of its members, a 69-year-old motorcyclist recently killed in a hit-and-run. The woman, a long-time biker, was out riding her motorcycle with her husband and a group of friends. As the riders stopped for a red light, she was hit from behind.
Coincidentally, several nurses were nearby and rushed to the aid of the injured woman. In the meantime, two other riders pursued the hit-and-run suspect, as did three witness who chased the individual in their vehicles while calling 911. Police quickly apprehended the suspect and placed him under arrest. Sadly, the victim’s injuries were too severe and she died at the hospital.
The accused man apparently has a history of driving under the influence and is believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the fatal hit-and-run. While he has not yet been formally charged by Colorado prosecutors, the family appears to have enough evidence should they decide to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit in a civil court. An attorney with experience in litigating cases involving motorcycle accidents can offer invaluable guidance and support for injured victims or grieving families who have lost a loved one due to another driver’s negligence.
