Not all head-on crashes end as fatal motor vehicle accidents

It would be easy for Colorado residents to believe that every head-on collision ends in death. Fortunately, that is not always the case. People actually do escape from otherwise fatal motor vehicle accidents. Even so, they rarely survive such a crash without injuries.

A driver suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision that recently took place in Colorado. Another vehicle careened into the oncoming lane of travel right into the victim's path. Fortunately, the resulting impact was not violent enough to cause death.

Police responding to the scene suspected that the 61-year-old man driving the vehicle that struck the victim's vehicle of impairment. Officers placed him under arrest and took him to the El Paso County Jail in Colorado Springs. He faces charges of DUI and vehicular assault, among other things. No information regarding his medical condition was provided. However, it was determined that the victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Even so, injuries do not have to threaten life to be serious. The victim could spend a substantial amount of time recovering. This could include hospitalization, physical therapy and numerous follow up medical appointments. He or she may also not be able to work during this time.

The financial impact of serious injuries is often significant. Surviving what would otherwise be considered fatal motor vehicle accidents does not mean that moving forward will be easy. For this reason, victims of these accidents retain the right to file a personal injury claim in a Colorado civil court seeking restitution for the monetary losses and other damages connected to the crash.
