Taking action after experiencing Zinbryta side effects

On Behalf of | Dec 2, 2019 | Defective Products/Toxic Torts

Zinbryta, otherwise known as daclizumab, was approved by the food and drug administration (FDA) in May 2016 to treat those suffering from relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). While studies showed that it was effective in reducing the severity of MS relapses in many patients, a wide range of side effects were monitored.

After at least three fatal cases were recorded due to some of the more severe side effects of the drug, the FDA as well as the European Medicines Agency decided to withdraw the drug because they believed that it posed more risks than benefits.

Since the drug has been withdrawn, many patients who have prescribed the drug and suffered damages as a result have decided to take legal action. If you were adversely affected by Zinbryta, you may also want to consider claiming damages.

What were the side effects of Zinbryta?

When the drug was initially released, the possible side effects listed included colon inflammation, enlarged lymph nodes, liver injuries, skin reactions and immune conditions. However, after the drug was released, some people reported symptoms of brain inflammation.

Brain inflammation can lead to very serious health consequences, and it can prove to be fatal. Symptoms of brain inflammation can include confusion, changes in behavior, feeling disorientated, fever and seizures.

What damages may I be able to claim?

If you were prescribed Zinbryta and suffered severe side effects as a result, you may be able to make a claim for damages. To be successful, you should be able to show that the symptoms you experienced were a direct result of your taking Zinbryta as a medication. It may be necessary to gain statements and reports from your medical provider to show that this is true.

You will also need to show that you suffered damages as a result. Damages that you can mention can include physical pain and suffering, financial damages due to lost wages while recovering or medical bills, and even emotional suffering as a result of the uncertainty and distress experienced.

If you want to make a claim for damages after suffering medical complications from using Zinbryta, you must take early action. Building a compelling case can take time, so it is best to be proactive in your approach.
