Pedestrian accidents: Colorado man accused of hit-and-run

A man police believe may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of an alleged hit-and-run accident has been detained, according to local sources. Pedestrian accidents are unfortunately common, but Colorado police have managed to track down the individual believed to be responsible for this one. The driver is suspected of having been drunk at the time of the crash.

Another pedestrian struck by a bus in Denver

A woman in Denver was hit by a bus recently as she attempted to cross the street. Initially the police thought the woman was trying to get off the bus when she was hit, but that turned out to be incorrect. Thankfully, the woman was okay and did not appear to be seriously injured. The bus driver involved in the crash wasn't arrested, and a replacement bus driver was sent to take over the remaining route.

Pedestrian hit-and-run victims may still get compensated

If you've been in motor vehicle accident you may know the basic legal drill. You want to be sure to get the name and address of the all the other drivers. It's also crucial to get the name of their insurance company and their policy number. If the accident is serious enough, you will want to call the police so that an official report gets filed.

Do sharrows work?

Denver and other Colorado communities take pride in being bicycle friendly. The city's website touts the fact that there are more than 100 miles of multi-use trails available. At the same time, there are some 400 miles of designated bike routes and 39 miles of sharrows. Wait a minute, sharrows? What are sharrows?

Steps to take if you're involved in a pedestrian accident

If you've been struck by a car in Denver, Colorado, you need to know what to do next. This isn't something anyone ever anticipates having to deal with, but it happens to a surprising number of pedestrians every year-many of whom are legally in crosswalks. Below are a few steps you should take.

Pedestrian accident risk remains a problem

Pedestrians are vulnerable on Colorado and Wyoming roads because they do not have real protection if a vehicle strikes them. As a result, pedestrian accidents usually mean victims could suffer debilitating injuries if the impact does not take their lives. Those who do survive and suffer from such injuries could need care for the rest of their lives, which will affect the victims as well as their family members.

Some Wyoming roads are especially hazardous to pedestrians

Weather, road conditions, traffic, reckless driving — whatever the reason, many pedestrians in Colorado's neighboring state of Wyoming are injured or killed each year. According to Transportation for America, one of the reasons may be that many Wyoming roadways are "dangerous by design." The term dangerous by design typically refers to arterial roads in suburban and even urban areas that were not designed to accommodate foot traffic safely.

How can I build a pedestrian accident case?

Like accidents involving two or more motor vehicles, accidents involving a pedestrian and an automobile rely on proving that the driver of the car was at fault. However, occasionally pedestrian accidents occur outside of motor vehicle activity. In such cases, faulty walkways, the presence of debris and other factors could cause pedestrians to be injured.

Are pedestrian accidents a major problem in Denver?

The one word answer is yes, simply because any pedestrian accident anywhere in Colorado and beyond should be considered a major issue. The answer is yes also because of the statistics involved in pedestrian plus automobile accidents. The following information comes from the CDC's statistics for 2012:

Denver pedestrian seriously hurt by car

Around 7 a.m. on March 13, a Colorado man was seriously injured when a car struck him at an intersection, presumably while he was attempting to cross the intersection on foot. The man suffered serious injuries and possible head trauma and was taken Denver Health for treatment. The Denver Police Department did not release his age. The driver of the car remained at the scene to speak to investigators, but no information as to the possible causes of the accident were released.
