Our practice focuses primarily on estate and trust litigation. This includes defending or challenging the validity of wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, and deeds. We also advise individuals regarding their interests in trusts, as well as fiduciaries such as trustees and personal representatives.
In addition, we handle some business litigation and provide personal counsel. My husband represents doctors, particularly in medical malpractice matters. We also offer estate planning services, including drafting wills and trusts, as well as probating and administering estates and trusts. Powers of attorney are also a key component of our estate planning practice.
One of the most distinctive aspects of our firm is that we are a husband-and-wife legal team, which is relatively uncommon. We are also intentionally a small firm—just the two of us. By design, we limit the number of cases we take so that we know every client and every case in depth. Our clients are never just a number.
Another factor that sets us apart is my background as a plaintiff-side medical malpractice attorney for 25 years. I have significantly more courtroom experience than many attorneys in this area because I served as lead counsel in more than 20 jury trials. Those trials typically lasted two to three weeks, whereas estate and trust litigation trials are usually bench trials lasting only a few days. As a result, I am very comfortable trying cases.
My wife has extensive experience and success in estate and trust litigation. She currently serves as co-chair of the Probate and Litigation Committee of the Colorado Bar Association. We have both received honors and awards in this practice area. For the current year, we were both selected as Colorado Super Lawyers in estate and trust litigation—one of only seven or eight attorneys statewide, with two of them in our firm.
